SMILE-UP., the former agency of Japan's entertainment powerhouse Johnny & Associates, faced a significant revelation after the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported on March 28th that two staff members, in addition to Johnny Kitagawa, were involved in sexual misconduct. President Noriyuki Higashiyama acknowledged these allegations.

In response to the BBC's report, SMILE-UP. took to their official website to provide a detailed explanation. They stated, "Today, BBC News reported that, aside from the late Johnny Kitagawa, two other staff members from the former Johnny & Associates agency were involved in sexual misconduct. Our president, Noriyuki Higashiyama, has confirmed this." The company further explained that they were aware of these incidents as early as the investigation conducted by an external specialist team for preventing recurrence in the previous year. They had already briefed the said two staff members on the findings of this investigation.

Regarding the handling of the situation, SMILE-UP. clarified, "As for these incidents, we took strict measures in accordance with relevant laws and employment regulations until September of last year." They emphasized that they refrained from providing specific details earlier out of respect for privacy and to prevent any potential defamation. Moving forward, they assured the public, "Despite no specific reports of sexual misconduct from those who have approached us in the past, we remain committed to verifying any future claims and providing sincere support for victims if such incidents are reported."
