It looks like it wasn’t just a third-episode itch last week, as the ratings for almost all dramas continued to drop, one by as much as 3.8%.

The downward spiral began on Monday, when ‘Lucky Seven‘ (Fuji TV) received a blow falling 1.7% and thus failing in its pursuit of the Tuesday drama ‘Strawberry Night‘ …

On Friday, ‘Renai NEET’ lost a lot of viewers with the second episode, while ‘13-sai no Hello Work’ jumped back up to its initial level; plus one new midnight drama to keep an eye one!

Competition was tough again on Saturday, but ‘Risou no Musuko’ actually reached a new personal season-high with its third episode. NHK also aired the first of two episodes of the mini drama ‘Quilt no Ie’.

Meanwhile, the Sunday dramas experienced almost no changes at all, with ‘Mousou Sousa’ actually going as far as repeating the exact same rating as last week.

A third-episode itch seems to be developing this week, as the ratings for a couple of dramas fell as much as 3.5% with the third episode. However, there weren’t just losers. A few dramas actually managed to gain nearly 2.0% compared to last week.

Meanwhile, two new dramas aired their first episodes on Tuesday, which increases the number of dramas that air during Tuesday’s prime time and evening slots to a total of eight. It’s the most dramalicious day of the week that also happens the feature the currently most popular drama of the season.

Speaking of popular dramas, Fuji TV’s Monday drama seems to be trying to snatch away the top position from Fuji TV’s Tuesday drama. Is it going to be successful?

The two big highlights: ‘Renai NEET’ and ‘Mousou Sousa’ aired their first episodes.

The last three days of the second week of January featured seven new dramas, three interesting prime time, one 11:00 pm drama, and three midnight/late-night idol dramas.

None of the three prime time dramas made a real approach towards the top of the ranking, but at least two of them are lurking somewhere around the 13.0%. The third one lost against its competition. Meanwhile, NHK managed to gain a couple more viewers for their taiga drama on Sunday, despite a much stronger competition than last week. Is this already the beginning of a positive trend after the bad first episode?

Ten new dramas are featured in this week’s first Drama Prime Time Report. From ending planners, hungry rock bands to dirty mamas, there was a great variety of new stories, but they all were overshadowed by a strawberry night. Which of them can stay near or even above the 15.0% mark this season? It will be interesting season again, with many more anticipated dramas that have to air their first episodes.

Last week, NHK’s taiga drama ‘Taira no Kiyomori’ basically opened the quasi first week of the 2012 drama winter season. Two other dramas and a mini series also already aired their first episodes. However, it was the drama specials that really knew how to keep us drama addicts entertained throughout the whole week.
