On October 25, 2023, the six-member YouTube group "Tokai On Air" made a significant update to their channel, addressing recent disturbances within the group.
The turmoil primarily involves Shibayu, his wife Ayana, and the group's leader, Tetsuya. The incident began when Ayana abruptly notified Shibayu via "X" of her intention to divorce him. Concurrently, she accused Tetsuya of disrupting the harmony within their relationship.
Initially, Shibayu attempted to turn the situation into entertainment content, but he eventually found it overwhelming, and the dynamics took a sudden shift. Ayana not only publicly criticized Shibayu but also directed her grievances towards Tetsuya through social media, leading to an uncontrollable situation.
In a video that followed these events, five members of the group, excluding Shibayu, appeared. Tetsuya started by offering an apology, acknowledging the public disruption and trouble caused by the situation. He also revealed that they had a meeting with all members, including Shibayu.
Concerning Shibayu's current condition, he mentioned that Shibayu visited a hospital for an examination, which revealed a mental illness. Shibayu is currently undergoing treatment and medication. The group subsequently announced that they would be taking a "break" from their main channel and focusing on their individual work. They also mentioned the reorganization of their 10th-anniversary event scheduled for the year's end, expressing the desire to include all six members in the future.
As discussions around the situation unfolded, it became clear that Tetsuya was considering retaining Shibayu within the group. Tetsuya emphasized that, regardless of whether Tokai On Air continued to produce content, the group considered themselves friends first and foremost, highlighting their strong bond and commitment to each other's well-being.
