On October 17, RADWIMPS announced that guitarist Akira Kuwahara has officially left the band. In a statement released on the band’s official website, they explained that while Kuwahara has been an integral part of the group for over two decades, differences in perspectives and goals among the members gradually surfaced. After extensive discussions, the decision for him to part ways with the band was made.
Yojiro Noda, the band’s frontman, shared his heartfelt appreciation, stating, "I’m deeply grateful for being able to make music with Kuwahara since we were 15. I will continue to support him in his future endeavors." Bassist Yusuke Takeda also reflected on the decision, noting that while they are now on separate paths, it was likely necessary for each member to find their own place of comfort. He added, "As a friend and bandmate, I wish Kuwahara happiness in whatever lies ahead."
Kuwahara himself expressed immense gratitude for his time with the band, saying, "The life I’ve shared with the members for over 20 years is a treasure. Thank you for the countless dreamlike experiences." He also addressed the fans directly, apologizing for the sudden announcement and thanking them for nearly two decades of support. He encouraged them to continue following RADWIMPS and assured them he would be cheering for the band as well.
As RADWIMPS approaches the 20th anniversary of their major debut in 2025, the remaining members and staff are committed to moving forward with strength and determination, expressing their appreciation for the continued support from fans and the music industry.
