Maki Goto has teamed up with Kenta Hamano for the theme song of the new Kansai TV/Fuji TV drama 'Ginga no Ippyo,' which premiered on April 20 (Mondays at 10 p.m.). Their collaboration track "O-hei" is set for digital release on May 12.
Hamano, the frontman of Zainichi Funk, joins Goto, who has been actively collaborating with artists such as Night Tempo and ZORN. The collaboration blends two distinct styles in an unexpected but natural way.
Built around composer Yuta Bandoh's main theme and with lyrics by Hamano, "O-hei" brings a bright, feel-good funk sound with a nostalgic Heisei-era J-pop feel.
Members of the drama's cast, including Haru Kuroki and Kayo Noro, participate in the chorus, adding to the track's appeal.
