[Exclusive] tokyohive sits down with Matsushita Yuya at FanimeCon 2011!
When it comes to Japanese pop, entertainers often owe their popularity to one of three talents: some are famous for their power vocals, many are known for their dance moves, and still others attract fans with their looks and personality. Matsushita Yuya has made his way up the ladder of fame with the help of all three: with an amazing set of vocal pipes, difficult choreography for all of his performances, plus a pretty boy charm to boot, it’s easy to see why this 21-year-old is one of the hottest R&B and hip-hop artists in Japan today.
Since his debut in 2008, Yuya has released an album and eight singles, plus a Korean and Taiwanese version of two of his tracks. On top of that, his music has also been featured for anime series, including the song "Trust Me", which was used for "Durarara!!". Furthermore, he played Sebastian Michaelis in the musical version of "Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji)".
On Memorial Day Weekend (May 27-30, 2011), Yuya brought his talent to FanimeCon in San Jose, California for his very first performance outside of Japan. Headlining the anime convention's annual MusicFest, the singer commanded the stage, performing an eleven-track set list that showed off his musical versatility, from fast-paced dance tracks to ballads (Check out tokyohive's concert recap here!).
The next morning, Yuya sat down with tokyohive for an exclusive one-on-one, where we chatted about everything from his road to fame to his upcoming plans in Japan and beyond.
