goo Ranking recently held a special poll, asking users to vote for the actress that they felt would best portay the character 'Ayanami Rei' from the classic anime, "Neon Genesis Evangelion", for a hypothetical live-action adaptation.

When it came to first place winner Ueto Aya, fans commented that Rei could "only be this girl!". Despite her cheerful and energetic image on television, voters wondered how she would fare when tackling a much darker and mysterious character. Second place went to Horikita Maki, who voters felt most resembled Ayanami in image. Horikita was also chosen as the "ideal Ayanami Rei" during a similar poll in 2009.
