Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne appeared in Tokyo to declare her support for giving youths who were affected by the Great Tohoku Earthquake a chance to study abroad in Canada. She stated, �When I first heard the news, I was filled with sadness. I want to show that my heart is always with everyone (here)�.

The project is titled �Hope Project�, and is a collaboration between handbag designer Samantha Thavasa Japan Limited and the Canadian Embassy. Avril and others have designed special canvas bags, and all proceeds from the sales will go towards the project.

Avril commented as she showed her designed bag, �Japan is a country I truly love and I'm really happy to be able to participate in connecting Japan and Canada.�
