On May 4th, popular rock band SOPHIA wrapped up their 2-year nationwide tour with a concert at the Shibuya Public Hall in Tokyo.
In March of 2010, member Miyako Keiichi (40) announced that he had lymphoma. In April of the same year, the group stopped all activities and in November 2010, it became apparent that Miyakos lymphoma was headed towards remission. In June of 2011, the group restarted all activities.
May 4th was the final day of the 2 day Tokyo performance for the group and the group sang 19 of their songs, including the song Machi for their 2000 fans in attendance. Vocalist Matsuoka Mitsuru expressed his gratitude with 2 years ago, we found out that Miyako was sick and I did not even dream that we could successfully complete a nationwide tour like this one. We can only hold performances like this one because of fans like you. I think it would be great for all of our fans if SOPHIA becomes a source of youthful energy and exudes a welcoming warmth. With that said, we plan on releasing a new single at the end of summer and we would be happy if everyone could listen to it.
Miyako expressed full gratitude with I have caused everyone to worry. For that, I am sorry. For my return to the stage, however, I am truly thankful for the great days like today that everyone has created. Therefore, I cannot lose. I think that everyone has a lot to do, so I want everyone to do their best. I am truly grateful for [my experience here] today.
