'Frozen' directors greet Japanese press

The 86th Academy Awards multi-award nominee "Frozen" held its Japanese press conference on January 30.�


Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, Producer Peter Del Vecho all attended the event.�Mizayaki Hayao's recent movie "The Wind Rises" was also nominated in the same category. On this, Lee commented, "Miyazaki-san is our inspiration. We are very honored to have been nominated together. My favorite Miyazaki movie is 'Spirited Away', and I have a poster of 'My Neighbor Totoro' on my wall at home."�


Inspired by the Andersen fairy tale "The Snow Queen", the musical fantasy tells the tale of love and adventure when elder sister Queen Elsa who has the power to turn everything she touches into ice, and younger sister Anna who goes on a quest to save the kingdom from being frozen from Elsa. This is the first-ever Disney movie to feature two princesses as the protagonist.�


Director Buck explained, "We want to retell the eternal Disney theme of 'true love' from a different angle." Director Lee added, "We want anyone to be able to resonate with the heroine and find their true selves."�


Furthermore, Vecho said of Frozen's success, "The movie is centered upon the heart-wrenching story created by these two here, as well as the emotional soundtrack. Moreover, the realistic snow and ice in the movie have also been unexpectedly successful."�


At the press conference, actress Kanda Sayaka, who voiced Anna for the Japanese dubbed version, performed the song "For the First Time in Forever" from the movie, while actresses Honda Miyu and her younger sister Honda Sara showed off figure skating to the song.�


Frozen has overtaken Disney's biggest hit to date, "Lion King" and took home wins at the 71st Golden Globe Awards. It has been nominated for the Best Full-Length Animation Feature and Best Theme Song (Let It Go) at the 86th Academy Awards. The movie will open on March 14 in Japan.
