The ZARD tribute band SARD UNDERGROUND has officially announced that Izumi Sugioka (Bass/Vocals) and Hiromi Sakamoto (Keyboard/Vocals) will depart the group as of September 30, 2024. Both members are moving on to new paths, while Yua Jinno will continue SARD UNDERGROUND as a solo project.

In 2024, the band celebrated its 5th anniversary since debuting. On March 24, they released their first compilation album, ZARD Tribute Best Selection, featuring newly recorded covers as well as re-recorded versions of previously covered songs. On the same day, they announced their first nationwide live tour. The final concert of this tour took place on September 22, where the departure of Sugioka and Sakamoto was revealed.

The band expressed gratitude to fans, stating, "We want you to fully enjoy our upcoming 5th anniversary live tour. We apologize for the sudden nature of this announcement." They encouraged fans to support Sugioka and Sakamoto in their new endeavors while continuing to support Jinno’s musical journey.

Member Reflections

Yua Jinno (Vocals) shared her thoughts, acknowledging the surprise of the announcement and the sadness it brought. She noted, "Becoming a solo artist has always been my dream, and I’m committed to continuing our legacy and performing ZARD's music." Jinno expressed a mix of emotions, emphasizing her desire to transform sadness into motivation for future activities.

Izumi Sugioka (Bass/Vocals) reflected on her decision, stating, "After much consideration, I felt a desire to live a more ordinary life outside of the band. I’m grateful for the experiences and memories we've shared." She thanked fans for their support and asked them to continue backing Jinno as she moves forward.

Hiromi Sakamoto (Keyboard/Vocals) expressed her gratitude as well, describing her time with the band as a dreamlike experience. "These past five years have been filled with unforgettable moments, thanks to the support of our fans and the love from everyone involved.
