On January 7, Asahi Beer announced that it would terminate its contract with actor Ryo Yoshizawa after it was revealed that he was questioned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police regarding an alleged breaking-and-entering incident in his apartment complex in late December 2023.
According to the company’s public relations department, the incident, involving Yoshizawa entering a neighboring apartment without permission, was "something Asahi Beer, as an alcohol beverage company, cannot accept." The company stated that it would no longer use Yoshizawa in any of its future advertisements and would cancel the endorsement contract.
Yoshizawa had become the face of the "Asahi Super Dry Dry Crystal" campaign in 2023. After news of the incident broke, his image was removed from the official product website.
According to investigative sources, the incident occurred on December 30, 2023, when Yoshizawa, intoxicated, accidentally entered a neighboring apartment in Minato-ku around 10:30 a.m. Yoshizawa claimed that the door was open and he entered by mistake. He remained in the apartment for about five minutes, denying any attempts to break the door or disguise his identity.
Yoshizawa's agency confirmed the facts on January 6, offering an apology to the neighbor affected by the intrusion. Yoshizawa has since moved out of the apartment.
