On January 5, 2025, a Tokyo-based cosmetic company, Reju, announced its closure after its CEO, Atsuo Miyauchi, made inappropriate comments about Number_i members and their performance.
In a statement, the company expressed regret over the harmful posts made by its CEO on X, apologizing to Number_i, their agency TOBE, and their fans. They acknowledged using disrespectful language and factual errors, which caused significant discomfort and hurt feelings. The company took full responsibility for the incident, and as a result, decided to close its operations.
The statement read, “We sincerely apologize for the inappropriate post made by our CEO, Atsuo Miyauchi, on X. We deeply regret the harm caused to TOBE, Number_i, and their fans, and we understand that our words were disrespectful and based on incorrect facts. We take full responsibility for this situation, and as a consequence, we have decided to shut down our company. We will cease sales of our products and will only respond to inquiries going forward. Additionally, we will refrain from any further posts on social media platforms, including X.”
Founded in December 2010, Reju's 14-year history ended abruptly due to the backlash from these comments. The posts, made on January 1, targeted Number_i's Sho Hirano and other members, criticizing their performance at the 75th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen. The CEO referred to the members as "traitors" for leaving the former Johnny's agency and used harsh language to express disapproval, calling their performance "disgusting." These comments were later deleted.
In response, Hideaki Takizawa of TOBE addressed the issue on X, acknowledging the negative impact on fans and promising a thorough investigation into the situation. He assured fans that appropriate actions would be taken in coordination with relevant parties.
