Singer-songwriter Fujii Kaze delivered a unique live performance from New York during the 75th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen on December 31, presenting his song “Michiteyuku” in a seamless, documentary-style sequence.

The performance began with Kaze seated in a study, microphone in hand, softly singing the opening lines. As the scene unfolded, he stepped out onto the streets of New York, eventually making his way to a rooftop. Against the backdrop of the city’s skyline, the performance reached its conclusion under the morning sun.

The 5-minute, 30-second sequence was filmed in one continuous take, with director Kento Yamada sharing behind-the-scenes details about the challenges of capturing the perfect timing for the morning light. “A live broadcast from a cold New York morning—focus, zoom, and aperture all adjusted wirelessly in one shot. The team’s effort and NHK’s support made it possible,” he commented.
