Ryosuke Yamada of Hey! Say! JUMP will release his first original solo album, "RED," on April 16, and will embark on his solo arena tour, titled "RED," starting on April 26.
Yamada fully launched his solo career when releasing the solo single "SWITCH" on Christmas Eve last year. The album "RED" is named after his member color, and will feature a total of 12 tracks, including "SWITCH," the recently released "snow moon," and 9 new songs, including the lead track "RED." The "RED" tour will begin in April, with a total of 13 performances in 6 cities: Shizuoka, Osaka, Miyagi, Chiba, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.
During a press conference for the announcement, Yamada reflected on his 12-year hiatus from solo activities, explaining, "Twelve years ago, I was consumed with the group, and I had negative feelings about solo work. But now, in this age where we can all express our own individuality, I wondered, 'What is my color?' If there’s a place for me to perform as an artist, I wanted to challenge myself. That's how 'SWITCH' came about, and now, with this solo album tour, I'm excited."
He went on to discuss the album title "RED," saying, "Of course, it's my member color, but it also reflects the passionate feelings bubbling up inside me. I hope this energy can reach everyone." Yamada also shared that he approached this album with the mentality of creating a 'best-of' collection, aiming for it to resonate with many listeners.
The album will showcase a variety of sounds, with Yamada emphasizing that, though he personally enjoys R&B, he ensured the album would not be solely R&B, aiming for a more entertainment-driven style. He also revealed his recent interest in expanding his musical influences by listening to foreign music, especially expressing his fondness for Chris Brown.
Speaking about the difference between his solo work and group activities, Yamada commented, "It's like having a home that allows me to live on my own. The things I can absorb through solo work are different from what I gain with the group. I look forward to bringing the essence of my solo experiences back to Hey! Say! JUMP and seeing how it creates new chemistry among us."
On his solo tour, Yamada admitted, "I'm so focused on the pressure of standing alone on an arena stage that I’m not sure I’ll have the time to enjoy local food." He also teased the tour’s content, saying, "There’s going to be a sense of surprise in a good way—’This is how Yamada Ryosuke expresses himself solo, but with the group, it’s different.’ I want to give fans that experience."
The album "RED" will be released in several formats: the first limited edition with a DVD containing the "RED" music video, the second limited edition with a documentary on the creation of his solo project, and a regular CD-only edition. Each edition will include different bonus tracks.
More details on the album are coming soon; in the meantime, check out the tour schedule below!
