We're previously reported about the after-effect of the "Kouhaku Uta Gassen" called 'The Kouhaku Effect', in whichsinger/songwriter, Uemura Kana, experienced a popularity revival for her hit track, "Toilet no Kamisama".
AKB48 also experienced the positive repercussions of attending the Kouhaku this year, as they'vedominated the Oricon chart. Four of AKB48's hit singles from 2010 skyrocketed through the rankings this week to place within the 'Top 10'.Ranking at #2 is "Chance no Junban", which is followed by "Heavy Rotation" at #3, "Beginner" at #5 and "Ponytail to Shushu" at #9. This is the first time a girl group has ever dominated the 'Top 10' chart with four singles in Japan.
In the past, there have been other female groups (such as Pink Lady, Wink, and Princess Princess), who have made records by having two of their songs placing on the 'Top 10' at the same time. However, AKB48 is the first female group in over a decade to have landed four singles at one time; currently, they share the honor with Utada Hikaru, who also placed four singles back in 1999.
While the 'Kohaku Effect' influenced the ratings revival from artists who performed at "Kohaku", Oricon has also noted the rise in rankings from other year-end events as well. Check out the chart below!
