May 2nd marked the showdown between Nogizaka46 and AKB48's Sashihara Rino, as they both released their new singles. Fans were eager to see how the "official rivals" would do, and now the results are out!
This showdown was planned out by the girls' producerAkimoto Yasushi, who also celebrated his birthday on May 2nd. For the first day sales, the girls of Nogizaka46 took the lead, defeating Sashihara with almost double the amount of copies sold.
Nogizaka's 2nd single, "Oide Shampoo", sold 111,000 copies, toppingOricon's Daily Charts. Meanwhile, Sashihara's solo debut single, "Soredemo Sukidayo", sold 57,000 units, and placed second in the charts.
The battle isn't over just yet. If "Oide Curtain" tops Oricon's Weekly Charts for May 8th, it will mark the group's first time to accomplish this feat. If Sashihara takes the leading position, she will become the first solo artist since Maeda Atsuko ("Flower" - 07/04/12) to top the charts with a debut single.
Congratulations to Nogizaka46!
