It's been reported that actress Shimada Yoko died on July 25 from multiple organ failure due to colorectal cancer. She was 69 years old. 

After making her break in the 1970s for her pure and innocent roles, Shimada made her way abroad and earned a Golden Globe for her role as Mariko in the 1980s miniseries 'Shogun.' Amidst her fame, she caused a stir when she was involved in an affair with singer Uchida Yuya. She continued to gain attention by releasing a nude photo book in 1992 and starring in an adult video in 2011. 

In recent years, Shimada had been focused on filmmaking and had been searching for a story to work on until she died. Her funeral will be held with close relatives in the coming days, and a memorial event will be planed for a later date.
