The editorial team of Jump SQ. has officially announced that Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc will be on hiatus for an indefinite period due to the health issues of author Nobuhiro Watsuki.
In their statement, they expressed gratitude to readers for their continued support, stating, "We have been on hiatus since the June 2024 issue while exploring a publishing schedule to ensure monthly releases. After discussions with Watsuki-sensei, we have decided that he will take a certain period of rest to return in good health and continue the series."
The team noted that the resumption date will be communicated through future issues of Jump SQ. and its official X account. They apologized for any disappointment this may cause readers, urging them to continue supporting Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc.
Additionally, the editorial team mentioned that while this announcement was made, the current issue still contains content from Rurouni Kenshin, but they were unable to amend it in time due to the printing process, and they apologized for any confusion caused by this oversight.
Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1994 to 1999, Rurouni Kenshin follows Himura Kenshin, a former assassin turned wandering swordsman in the Meiji Era, exploring themes of redemption and peace. The Hokkaido arc, which began in 2017, continues Kenshin's journey, addressing new challenges while deepening the exploration of his past and the lives of those around him. The series has inspired numerous adaptations, including anime, live-action films, and video games, making it a significant part of Japanese pop culture.
