Mariya Nishiuchi to retire from showbiz
TH STAFF
Mariya Nishiuchi has announced retirement from showbiz. Her contract with her agency will expire at the end of May.
Since the beginning of the year, Nishiuchi had stopped updating her social media accounts, keeping herself out of the public eye. Then on May 15, she explained her reason for her disappearance, "I won't go into details, but earlier this year, it came to light that a family member had been causing some trouble. While I wasn't directly involved in the situation, I felt that it could potentially become a bigger problem and cause trouble for everyone involved, so I chose to step back from my activities." She went on to reveal her reason for leaving showbiz, "I believe I need some time to reconnect with my family and reflect on myself. Given that, I hope to take a break, recharge, and begin a new chapter in my life."
From now on, Nishiuchi hopes to spend her life doing the things that she wants to do. She expressed, "I never imagined it would end this way, and while I'm saddened, I'm truly thankful."
Nishiuchi began her modeling career in July of 2007 as an exclusive model for the teen fashion magazine 'Nicola,' later transitioning to 'Seventeen,' where she remained a featured model for five and a half years. In August of 2014, she debuted as a singer with the single “LOVE EVOLUTION,” which earned her both the Japan Record Award for Best Newcomer and the Japan Cable Award for Newcomer of the Year. In addition to modeling and music, she also found success as an actress, landing leading roles for dramas on major television stations.
