'Dragon Quest XII' received a major update on May 27, with new footage revealing that the game's development structure has been changed and the project has effectively been restarted.
As part of the overhaul, the subtitle has been changed from 'Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate' to 'Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams.' The game's release date and supported platforms have not yet been announced.
According to executive producer Yosuke Saito, the original version of 'Dragon Quest XII' encountered multiple challenges during development, prompting the team to re-evaluate what a mainline 'Dragon Quest' title should be and ultimately restart the project from scratch. He described the move as "a very difficult decision," adding that the subtitle and logo were also redesigned as part of the new direction.
Series creator Yuji Horii commented on the game's theme, saying, "Beyond dreams, I think there's a bright and exciting world waiting rather than a dark one." He also confirmed that the game will once again feature character designs by the late Akira Toriyama and music by the late Koichi Sugiyama.
