Well, it's not really an event, but just for technical purposes.

Yesterday, October 13th, the much awaited Tokyo Sky Tree was lit up for three hours. This will be the first and last light up activity that will take place before its grand opening in 2012. The illumination of the tower has garnered audiences who were very eager to see how the tower will look like when it's finished.

Unfortunately, only a portion of the tower was lit up, so not all Sumida ward residents were able to see it.
