Actors Oguri Shun and Okada Masaki's starring film, 'Uchuu Kyoudai', has received two awards at the '16th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival'!
The film won the "Best of Puchon" and "Citizen's Choice" awards respectively. This is the first Japanese film to win the "Best of Puchon" award in this festival.
In Korea, since a great portion of films are based on original stories, comic-based films are considered to be weak. However, 'Uchuu Kyoudai' received a favorable reputation from the local audience. When tickets for the 2 showings went on sale, they sold out in just 3 minutes.
The festival's programmer Alice Yoo explained, "Films that are based on popular mangas are usually weak, but the structure of it's (Uchuu Kyoudai) drama was very consistent and it gave a strong impression."
After hearing the good news, director Mori Yoshitaka expressed, "It made me realize that people are accepting this film, that's based on a popular Japanese comic, with great interest. That alone was a valuable experience, but moreover, I'm very happy to receive these awards!"
The Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival started back in 1997, making this their 16th year. It screens horror, mystery, sci-fi, and fantasy films from South Korea and all over the world.
