The bassist of Japanese punk band Gagaga SP, Yasunobu Kuwahara, has passed away at the age of 44 due to heart failure. This was confirmed on the morning of February 5.
This year marks the 28th anniversary of Gagaga SP's formation, and in December of last year, the band held their first overseas performance in South Korea. Kuwahara had been a member of the band since its early days, and he also contributed songs to other artists, including Hime Kyun Fruit Can and Hitomi Takahashi. On the band's official website, it was announced that details regarding farewell events such as a memorial service would be decided in consultation with the family and announced at a later time.
In light of Kuwahara's passing, Gagaga SP has canceled their participation in two upcoming events: 'Shibuya Ongakudo Kokera Otoshi Rock'n'Roll Kaigyo Sai!; in Shibuya, Tokyo on February 14, and 'Tokyo Algorithm's 'Ya. Bonjin' Release Tour Jinsei, Damedemoto' at LIVEHOUSE BRONZE in Osaka on February 15. Information about ticket refunds will be announced at a later date. Additionally, Gagaga SP was scheduled to perform at the 'Fugen Matsuri EMERGE FEST 2025' in Taiwan on February 22 and 23, but whether the performances will go ahead as planned has not yet been confirmed.
Our sincere condolences go out to Gagaga SP along with Kuwahara's family and friends during this difficult time.
