Ayaka Wada has announced that she has married in Taiwan.
In a post shared on her official Instagram on April 17, Wada revealed that she chose to register her marriage in Taiwan, her partner's home country.
She explained that she has long supported same-sex marriage and was drawn to Taiwan's system, which allows couples to keep separate surnames. "We felt that getting married in Taiwan, where these options are available, is closer to the kind of relationship we envisioned," she shared.
Wada added that while she is able to choose separate surnames in Japan due to her international marriage, she hopes that "everyone who wishes to do so can live in a way that feels true to themselves."
