Actress Yuri Nakamura passed away on September 1 from rectal cancer at the age of 44, her agency Alpha Agency announced.
According to the agency, Nakamura was first diagnosed with cancer 13 years ago and later went into remission while continuing her acting career. Cancer was discovered again in January 2025, and although she underwent successful surgery, doctors later found that the disease had spread. She continued to receive treatment while working.
In August, while preparing to return to work, Nakamura developed another intestinal obstruction and was informed that she had little time remaining. Her agency said she spent her final days surrounded by family and those close to her. Her funeral was held privately with family members, actors from her agency, and staff.
Born in Osaka in 1982, Nakamura made her debut in 1998 as a member of the music duo YURIMARI before establishing a career as an actress. She received recognition for her performance in the 2007 film Pacchigi! Love & Peace.
Over the course of her career, Nakamura starred in numerous films and dramas, including Arc, At the Window, Samurai Detective Onihei: Blood for Blood, SUPER RICH, and the Netflix series Romantics Anonymous.
