Five-member band First Love is Never Returned released their first major-label album, W.O.R.K.S., on October 7.
The album contains 12 tracks, including six new songs, and marks the band's first nationwide physical CD release. All five members, who continue to work regular jobs alongside their music careers, contributed to the album's songwriting.
The lead track, "Taisyoku Daikou" (Resignation Agency), was written by vocalist Kazuki Ishida and explores Japan's resignation agency services, which allow employees to have a third-party communicate their resignation to an employer. The song incorporates funk elements and features the band's three vocalists portraying different perspectives in the workplace.
The accompanying music video, directed by Honoka Saito, takes the form of a short film featuring comedy duo Tosa Brothers, comedian Lucifer Yoshioka and YouTuber Tamura Kae.
Other tracks on the album include "TPTTC,' the band's first entirely English-language song, along with "Atrium," "Kimatsu Hyouka Kaigi," "Twilight" and "Midnight Blue," each written by a different member.
The CD+Blu-ray edition includes footage from the band's first headline concert at Shibuya Club Quattro, a documentary about their beginnings in Sapporo, and interviews with all five members.
First Love is Never Returned will also embark on their tour #FLiNR ONE-MAN TOUR 26-27 'W.O.R.K.S.' from November through January, performing six shows across five cities, including their first headline concerts in Nagoya and Fukuoka.
