X Japan leaderYoshiki is leading the Japan Relief Fundraising Auction (JFRA), a major celebrity auction that benefits survivors of the Tohoku disaster. The JFRA is held in conjunction with Yahoo! Japan and will be their first worldwide auction. The auction will be available in English, Korean, and Chinese, and can also be translated through service 'j-Grab' into Russian, Italian, and French.
The auction includes items donated by major Hollywood stars. Some of the items up for auction came fromMarilyn Manson, Anthony Kiedis, Stan Lee, Rob Pattinson, James Franco, and ReeseWitherspoon. Yoshiki himself has donated his Kawai grand crystal piano. The JFRA auction for his piano will run from April 17th to April 24th, and more celebrity items will be added each week.
Yoshiki, who was in Japan when the earthquake happened, is being hands-on with the project and is devoting himself majorly to the relief effort. He has been an active figure, reaching out to celebrities, dignitaries, and the media in the hopes of making a difference. He's also partnered with other organizations involved in the country's recovery.
"The situation in northeastern Japan is desperate and the need is tremendous," said Yoshiki. "Not only have thousands lost their loved ones, homes, and jobs, but entire neighborhoods and towns have been swept away. More recently, thousands more have had to evacuate their homes because of radiation from damaged power plants. We can't turn our backs at such a desperate time."
The Yoshiki Foundation America is also accepting donations via its website. They have also partnered with The Japan America Society of Southern California.
