On May 17th, Fuji TV held a press conference for the upcoming two-hour drama 'Touma Kyouju no Tensai Suiri (1) Okinoshima no Ogon Densetsu Satsujin Jiken' starring Sasaki Kuranosuke.

Sasaki, who is starring in his first two-hour drama, is playing a Japanese professor researching ukiyo-e (color prints from the Edo period) who helps to solve cases with his sharp perception. At the press conference, he was dressed as the character. "I look like a Japanese Indiana Jones," he joked. "It's my first two-hour drama, and it was fun to build this character. It would be a waste to end it with just this one episode."

That's also what the producers thought as well as the reason it was decided even before the filming that it would become a new two-hour series. "I couldn't stop thinking about the (1) in the title," Sasaki revealed. "The final version looks really good, so I hope we can do more each episode. How many? I can't think of any number right now."

The filming was done at the Oki Islands (Okinoshima) back in February. Sasaki commented, "Although they told me beforehand, I never expected that it would really take two weeks to film everything. Somehow I survived it."

Heroine Moriguchi Yoko also attended the press conference and added, "We had to film it at Okinoshima in the middle of a frigid winter, and I think that everyone will be able to see how much energy was put into this production."

The two-hour drama is based on Takahashi Katsuhiko's original novel 'Nanchou Meiro', in which professor Touma has to find out the truth about a mysterious murder case and its connection to the legend of the phantom currency "Kenkon Tsuhou", which is said to be distributed by Emperor Go-Daigo when he was exiled to Okinoshima.

'Touma Kyouju no Tensai Suiri (1)' will air on June 1st.
