Yasushi Akimoto, renowned for creating some of Japan's most successful idol groups, announced the debut of a new girl group named Rain Tree during an event in Tokyo on October 8. This exciting new venture will feature 17 members, all of whom are set to make their debut in January 2025.

The formation of Rain Tree follows an extensive audition process known as the IDOL3.0 PROJECT, which began in April 2023. Out of approximately 10,000 applicants, the final group comprises members who participated as finalists but did not debut with the previously announced group, White Scorpion. The chosen members include Ichi, Ichigo, Kawachan, Kinako, Kotori, Sana, Tama, Chai, Nii, Pero, Macaron, Maki, Mario, Milan, Lee, Rinrin, and Roze.

During the surprise announcement, many members were overcome with emotion, shedding tears of joy. Kotori expressed her gratitude, saying, “I never expected such a surprise! I’m determined to work hard from now on!” Tama echoed her sentiments, reflecting on the journey they had shared, “I tried not to get my hopes up, especially after previous disappointments. But today, as we celebrate our debut, I’m so glad we all made it together this past year.”

The name "Rain Tree" symbolizes resilience, inspired by a tree that closes its leaves during rain and opens them again in sunlight. The concept emphasizes strength and nurturing, portraying the members as gentle yet powerful figures who can inspire and uplift those around them.

In an innovative approach, Rain Tree will implement a selection process for main members for each single, allowing for continuous evolution and growth within the group. The members chosen to perform the title track of their debut single will be determined based on evaluations of their singing, dancing, and self-expression, starting in October. Those not selected for the title track will still participate as part of the coupling song.

Fans can expect to see the selection process documented in a series available on the Lemino streaming service, showcasing the journey of the members as they navigate this exciting new chapter.

Yasushi Akimoto leads the group as producer, bringing his extensive experience from working with famous idol groups like AKB48, Nogizaka46, Hinatazaka46, and Sakurazaka46. The team behind Rain Tree includes staff from King Records and other successful idol projects.
