On January 27, 2025, Fuji TV held a press conference to address the ongoing situation involving Masahiro Nakai and his alleged trouble with a woman. The network used the opportunity to provide more details about the incident and clarify key points, including the involvement of executives in a dinner gathering related to the incident.
According to the network, Nakai’s dispute with the woman, which came to light in late December, was settled through mediation, and Nakai reported the situation on January 9. However, the fallout from the incident led to the cancellation of Nakai's regular programs. On January 23, Nakai made the announcement of his retirement from show business.
Fuji TV executives, including Chairman Shuji Kano and President Koichi Minato, resigned following the public backlash. During the press conference, the network stated that despite the sensitive nature of the issue, they had not conducted a formal investigation due to concerns over the privacy and well-being of the woman involved.
The network also emphasized that the dinner gathering where the incident allegedly took place did not involve any senior employees, and no evidence was found during the company’s internal review to suggest their participation.
In response to questions from the press, Fuji TV’s Vice Chairman Ryunosuke Endo revealed that Nakai had a different understanding of the situation from the woman involved. He explained that the issue centered on a discrepancy in their perceptions of the event. When asked whether Nakai had explained the actions as consensual, Endo confirmed, saying, “Yes, that’s correct.”
Endo further explained that the incident was considered a difficult matter to investigate due to it being a private matter between two individuals, making it challenging for others to intervene. As a result, Fuji TV initially hesitated to launch a formal inquiry after learning that the situation was being settled privately.
When the discussion shifted to Nakai's explanation of the incident, Endo stressed the importance of privacy, noting that Fuji TV had respected the sensitive nature of the issue. Despite this, there was significant media interest, and the company’s public relations team was forced to handle multiple rounds of clarifications during the press conference.
The network also confirmed that the employees involved in the matter were not high-ranking executives, as originally reported, and clarified that no senior personnel had participated in the dinner gathering.
The press conference lasted for over four hours, with intense questioning from the media. Despite the difficult nature of the discussion, Fuji TV remained committed to addressing the matter transparently, emphasizing that the situation had been carefully reviewed and that the company had taken all necessary steps to ensure fairness.
