On March 31, actress Shihori Kanjiya announced via Instagram that her contract with ABP inc. has ended and that she will be going independent starting in April.

Kanjiya wrote, "As of March 31, 2026, my contract with ABP inc. has come to an end, and I will be going independent starting in April." She reflected on her career, saying, "I entered this world after being scouted in my second year of junior high school. [At the time] I never even had a dream, but I was given the opportunity to stand in front of people and act."

She went on to express her gratitude to the agency, saying, "For 26 years, they have patiently supported me. Those experiences have shaped who I am today." At the same time, she admitted feeling some uncertainty, adding, "While I feel anxious about parting ways with the staff who have been like family, I would be happy if you could watch over this new step I am taking at 40."

Kanjiya concluded by thanking her supporters and saying that she would continue to do her best at her own pace.

Kanjiya made her acting debut in the 2002 film 'Shura no Mure.' She gained attention with the 2004 film 'Swing Girls,' later starring in the NHK morning drama 'Chiritotechin' (2007). In 2013, she won Best Actress at the 56th Blue Ribbon Awards for her leading role in 'Kuchizuke.' Her other works include 'Natsuzora' (2019), 'Yuuhi no Ato' (2019), 'Theseus no Fune' (2020), and 'Ooku' (2023). She married a non-celebrity man in September 2019.
