TBS' annual summer music special 'Ongaku no Hi' will air live on July 18 from 2:00 p.m.
Now in its 16th year, the program was first launched in 2011 with the message of "energizing Japan through the power of music." This year's theme is "Koeru. Kikoeru." ("To Overcome. To Be Heard.").
The theme draws inspiration from athletes pushing beyond their limits during a year marked by major international sporting events, including the Winter Olympics, the World Baseball Classic, and the FIFA World Cup, as well as from people who have overcome countless hardships in the 15 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake.
TBS announcers Shinichiro Azumi and Ai Eto will once again serve as hosts.
The program will feature numerous artists who will perform songs aimed at bringing people across Japan together through the power of music. Performing artists will be announced at a later date through TBS music programs.
