Sony Music Labels has announced the launch of Aobazaka46, a new group under the Sakamichi Series, with member auditions beginning on August 18.

The announcement follows several days of mystery surrounding the name "Aobazaka." A mysterious commercial aired during Nogizaka Under Construction on August 16, while advertisements appearing in Shibuya teased an August 18 announcement, sparking speculation among fans.

Unlike the existing Sakamichi groups, Aobazaka46 will serve as a one-year group for members selected through the new audition. After a year of activities as Aobazaka46, members will be assigned to either Nogizaka46 as seventh-generation members, Sakurazaka46 as fifth-generation members, or Hinatazaka46 as sixth-generation members.

Alongside the announcement, a new audition video featuring members of Nogizaka46, Sakurazaka46, and Hinatazaka46 will be shown across Japan. The campaign carries the message, "Change from here, your world."

Applications for the Aobazaka46 audition will remain open through October 8 at 11:59 p.m. JST.
