Back in December,S/mileage, the idol group with the shortest skirts in Japan, released their first live photo book, titled "S/mileage 1st LIVE Photo Book", and yesterday they celebrated its release with a special handshake event that was attended by 1,000 of their fans. "We hope to create at least 252525 smiling faces with this photobook," leader Wada Ayaka exclaimed to fans.
The group's name includes the meaning for "smile" and "age", but the girls seem to see another meaning in their name. "We want to pile up the smiles of our fans like mileages," they said. During the interview, Wada also explained why she came up with the strange number of "252525 smiling faces". Apparently "2525" can be spoken as "niconico", which means "smile". She explained, "During practice I've said 2.5 billion, but it's okay as long as it includes a 2 and a 5."
About the photobook she added, "There are even pictures of me apologizing to our manager after sleeping in and missing the bullet train. They are precious memories from our tour."
S/mileage has recently won "Best New Artist" at the Japan Record Awards and they aim to continue their steady rise. "It's our dream to become more famous so that we can go on a nationwide tour and eat a lot of delicious food," they said.
At the event, the four girls appeared in cute dresses and sported nice short cuts to match the theme of their newest song, "Short Cut", that will be released on February 9th.
