It's been announced that Osawa Takao and Matsushima Nanako will be starring in a new action suspense movie directed by Miike Takashi, "Wara no Tate" .
"Wara no Tate" is based on the debut novel by Kiuchi Kazuhiro, who is well-known for his manga "Be-Bop High School", and the story starts when a murderer has a reward of 1,000,000,000 yen on his head.
A granddaughter of Ninagawa, the guy who dominates political and business fields, was brutally murdered by 'Kiyomaru Kunihide', who was just released from prison after being arrested for an assault murder of a girl 8 years ago. Though he was put on the country's most wanted list and the investigation by the police was ongoing, his whereabouts were unknown.
Three months later after the incident, a full-page advertisement was placed on three major newspapers that says, "Please kill this man. Kiyomaru Kunihide. As a reward, I will pay you 1,000,000,000 yen. Ninagawa Takaoki." Right after the advertisement was placed, Kiyomaru, aware of being in danger, surrendered himself to the Fukuoka Prefectural Police. In order to escort his body to the Metropolitan Police Department, 5 best SPs were dispatched.
The story portrays the 5 SPs' fierce escort across a total of 1,200 km, which intersects the murderous intents of the whole nation who "tries to kill the scum of humanity, and get the money."
Osawa will play 'Mekari Kazuki', one of the SPs who is conflicted about whether Kiyomaru is a worthy enough human being to be guarded. He commented, "I was waiting for this novel to get a live-action movie adaptation. I would like to challenge myself to the shooting while united with the staff and cast members." Matsushima's role will be 'Shiraiwa Atsuko', the partner of 'Mekari.' Matsushima also showed her motivation saying, "Whether or not it's 'justice' to guard the murderer who is described as somebody who is 'not worth living'... I will try my best so that people can feel something after watching this movie."
It was also revealed that 'Kiyomaru Kunihide', "the scum of humanity", will be played by Fujiwara Tatsuya. Fujiwara commented, "It's been a while for me to be a part of team Miike. I am honored to be able to play this kind of special villain role."
With the great cast members, the director Miike stated, "Greatest cast members. An all-time scale. The story like a hurricane.... it sure will be a hot summer."
The filming for "Wara no Tate" will begin on August 16th, and it is scheduled for a release in 2013.
