FUNKY MONKEY BABYS, Funky Kato
It was announced on June 27 by formerFUNKY MONKEY BABYSleaderFunky Kato(34) that he will begin his solo activities via the official "FUNKY MONKEY BABYS" blog. The popular group disbanded after theirTokyo Dome performances on the 1st and 2nd of this month.

He began by talking about his state of mind after the group's final performance with, "I was spending my new days whilesometimes closing my eyes, opening my ears, and carefully holding those reverberations." He also revealed that he has been given an offer to appear on TBS music program "Ongaku no Hi," and that even after the group disbanded, he was told that many people would still like to hear the group's songs. Kato fully acknowledged this and after consideration and questioning himself repeatedly, he came to a decision.

He announced that "From here on out, I will begin my solo activities as 'Funky Kato'" and decided that, "I will head towards a new dream and into your hearts and devote my body and soul to singing even hotter songs than what I have done to this point." He continued and concluded with, "As I do not have songs yet, so I won't be singing, but I will appear as Funky Kato on TBS's 'Ongaku no Hi.'"

"Ongaku no Hi" is TBS TV's big concept program and it will air on June 29 for the 3rdtime ever.Nakai Masahiro(40) and TBS announcerAzumi Shinichiro(39) serve as the program's hosts and the program's homepage states that the concept is, "To gather the power of song and spread it through Japan." The program begins airing at 2 PM and ends at 5 AM the following day, which totals more than 13 hours of air time. There are 100 groups of singers on the program, and on June 27, it was announced that "Funky Kato" would appear.
