One of the most popular anime shows for winter 2020 is Jujutsu Kaisen. However, some anime fans may still not get what the hype is all about. Jujutsu Kaisen is the story of Jujutsu sorcerers and their battle against cursed objects running amuck. While that already sounds like a convincing pitch, if you need some more reasons to watch Jujutsu Kaisen, keep reading below!
The anime protagonist is Yuuji Itadori, a “regular” high school student with a penchant for the occult and superhuman strength. After an eerie encounter with demons from another realm, born of cursed energy, Itadori consumes a special grade cursed object to protect his friends. However, what he did not anticipate was that the cursed object would be able to cohabitate with him in his own body, making him a vessel for the cursed object. Owing to the threat that this would pose to everyday society, Itadori needs to be executed as soon as possible.
The best and most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer of all, Gojou, is reason enough to tune into Jujutsu Kaisen. With sass beyond comprehension and unmatched skill to back it up, Satoru Gojou is just as much of a protagonist as Itadori. Heavily anti-establishment, Gojou wants nothing more than to dethrone the higher-ups. That is part of the reason why he is so careful and protective about Itadori since his existence in and of itself is technically illegal.
Jujutsu Kaisen has one of the most brilliant villains. Known undisputedly as the King of Curses, Ryouma Sukuna is the primary antagonist of the series and is also the spirit inhabiting Itadori’s body. His past appearance is described as a demon with four arms and two heads. Even at death a thousand years ago, his corpse could not be fully destroyed and transformed rather into special grade cursed objects. Besides Sukuna, the two other important antagonists include Suguru Geto and Mahito. Geto is a special grade sorcerer specializing in collecting and controlling cursed spirits, whereas Mahito is a cursed spirit with the incredible ability to alter the shape of souls. With every character overpowered in some sort of way, all the protagonists and antagonists are on the same level of competence, which makes the experience that much better.
Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College
The School for Jujutsu Sorcerers is rife with some of the most intricately built characters with rich background stories. This includes Megumi Fushiguro, whose insistence about protecting Itadori convinces Gojou to do the same and Nobara Kugisaki, a strong and independent young woman determined to live for herself (the first years) and Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki (who only speaks in onigiri ingredients) and Panda who is quite literally, a panda (the second years). With a host of characters yet to be introduced, now is the perfect time to catch up!
