Yomiuri Giants announced on May 26 that manager Shinnosuke Abe has resigned, according to Kyodo News.
Multiple Japanese media outlets reported that Abe was arrested on suspicion of assault by Tokyo's Shibuya Police Station on May 25 following an alleged incident involving his 18-year-old daughter at his home. Reports also stated that he was released shortly after midnight on May 26.
Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1979, Abe joined the Giants as the team's first-round draft pick in 2000 after attending Yasuda Gakuen High School and Chuo University. Widely regarded as one of Japan's top catchers, he recorded 2,132 hits and 406 home runs during his playing career before retiring in 2019.
Abe became manager of the Giants in 2024 and led the team to a Central League championship in his first season.
