
Veteran actress and writer Keiko Kishi passed away on August 7 due to natural causes related to old age. She was 93.
According to the announcement by her agency on August 19, a private funeral was held for close family members in accordance with Kishi's wishes.
Born in Yokohama in 1932, Kishi made her film debut in Waga Ie wa Tanoshii in 1951. She rose to prominence through films including the Kimi no Na wa trilogy and went on to become one of Shochiku's leading actresses.
Throughout her long career, Kishi appeared in numerous acclaimed films, including Snow Country, The Makioka Sisters, and The Twilight Samurai. She won Best Actress at the Japan Academy Film Prize for her performance in Kaachan.
In addition to acting, Kishi was an accomplished writer who published numerous essays and novels. She was awarded Japan's Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette in 2004 and was named Commander of the French Order of Arts and Letters in 2011.
