Kenshi Yonezu has written the new song "Yodaka" as the theme song for the upcoming film 'Kingdom: The Decisive Battle of Souls,' which opens nationwide on July 17.
The film is the fifth installment in the live-action 'Kingdom' series based on the manga by Yasuhisa Hara. It will depict a large-scale battle between the state of Qin and the six rival states.
Kento Yamazaki returns in the lead role alongside Ryo Yoshizawa, Kanna Hashimoto, and Etsushi Toyokawa, with director Shinsuke Sato also returning. New cast members include Jun Shison and Fuju Kamio.
"Yodaka" was written to accompany the emotional clashes and human drama between the characters.
Producer Shinzo Matsuhashi revealed that the song even influenced the film’s subtitle, saying the movie was initially planned under the title 'The Greatest Battle in History' before being changed to 'The Decisive Battle of Souls' after hearing Yonezu's song.
A new trailer and teaser featuring part of "Yodaka" have also been released on YouTube.
